If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
There I was in the church sitting in the pew. My hands start to sweat as I was very fidgety. I couldn’t stop looking at others as they stood up with their hands lifted up toward God giving Him praise. Not only that, it felt like there was a beam of light shining right on my forehead. I hesitated for a while and then I stood up and ended up in the middle isle, heading toward the altar to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. The preacher spoke and asks me to repeat the words of repentance, forgiveness, and acceptance. And then I was saved. Until then, my cousin was the only one that I knew was saved in the family. I was so excited and knew Jesus was living inside me. That week seemed to be different and was looking up. I was now more prepared to face life.
The following week, Mom had prepared Labor Day celebration all week long coordinating with family about food, entertainment and games. This was the best time of the summer before school started back. We would really have a good time and stay up late in the celebration. Once it was over, it was time to go back to school. This was my first year in Junior High School. I lay in bed giggling and cheesing about the time we had. I also thought about the first day at school of who I would meet, classes I would attend, and how much fun I would have. Eventually I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
Suddenly, I heard my mother screaming. I jumped up and ran in her room and seen a man of slender build, towering over my mother in the dark with a knife in his hand. Immediately, I said, “Jesus!” and he turned around and started chasing after me with his knife. My mother then tried to fight him off of me from behind. He then turned around and went back stabbing my mother. Everything was happening so fast. I ran away and ended up in the closet. I didn’t know too much about prayer but I began to talk to Him. I said, “Jesus, help me, Jesus, help me, I want to live, I don’t want to die.” I said this continuously for at least five to ten minutes while hearing my mother scream and fighting off this attacker. After the prayer I received enough peace to now get help. By this time my mother was in the dining room fighting off the burglar. I began to sneak down the hallway to see what was going on. I noticed the phone on the floor at the end of the hallway. So I picked it up and tried and tried to dial for help but there was no dial tone. Eventually the burglar noticed me and he charged at me with his knife and started stabbing me with all his might and power. He stabbed me approximately thirty-nine times in the face, back, neck, arm and foot. My mother getting up from her injuries ran after him to get him away from me. He threw her off and went back and forth stabbing my mother and me until there was no movement and it was quiet.
There I was lying on the floor in my own pool of blood looking at my mother from across the living room. I had my eyes open the whole time as if I were dead. My mother stopped moving and all you could hear were the sounds of the knife going in and out of my mother’s body over and over again. Even though she was dead, he stabbed a few more times just to ensure it was over. There was nothing else I could do but just lay there and watch. It seemed so unreal as if it was a movie or a bad dream; but this was the reality of my life being a new believer. I was so close to death that no one believed I was going to overcome the physical, mental and spiritual scar it caused. Even though I was eleven years old as a Christian, the devil attempted to destroy my very existence of living life. Since he couldn’t kill me, he tried to kill my spirit. Other family and friends could only do and believe so much for me to live but I had to believe and trust in God that I would live even though I had been scarred. I had to fight and push even when I wanted to quit. After the hospital experience, I battled within myself and felt like God had forsaken me. I had a lot of bitterness and un-forgiveness and didn’t realize it until situations that dealt with my scarred areas of hurt and pain occurred. At times I would be very insecure and scared to be at home by myself, always looking out the window late at night making sure no one was there. At school kids would ridicule me because of my scars. They would put me down. It began to build a wall of hurt and pain that I wouldn’t let anyone in to help.
When I was sixteen I was tired of life and was ready to run away, give up and go somewhere away from everybody. So I went to school and got into a fight. Faculty discussed sending me to juvenile detention and expelling me from the school district. I was mentally having a nervous breakdown and didn’t know how to explain it. My Aunt was scared for me and knew I needed to get away. She decided that I needed to go visit my big brother who was in the US Army. Once I visited, my Aunt felt that it was better that I stay with him. Because of that decision, it changed my outlook on life. I began to go to church again and I accepted Jesus Christ back into my heart. Since then, God began to heal, deliver, and put me back together again. I cannot take the credit. I know for a fact it was God! I can now say, “I forgive the man that killed my mother and stabbed me.” My scars have produced a conviction to live with purpose. For this reason I am determined to empower, encourage and inspire others that they too can overcome and make something out of their lives. Eventually I wrote my first book entitled, “Scarred for Life: Stabbed thirsty-nine times and forgave (scarred2live.com).” Yet it may be difficult, as long as we believe and trust in God, all things are possible! Matt 19:26 KJV “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, ‘With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.’”
My goal is to reach as many people that have been scarred one way or another to let them know if I can overcome my tragedy, they can too. So whatever it takes to get the word out, I am willing to do it through speaking, writing books, etc.. I am grateful to be alive and I must allow my mother’s life to live within me. God bless you and don’t let anything stop you from fulfilling your purpose in Christ Jesus!
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH GOSPEL ARTIST FRED REED
Interviewed by Sherrell Valdezloqui
With 19 years in the music business, Fred Reed is gospel singer, writer, and producer. Now in 2011, he has embarked on the journey of releasing his highly anticipated debut solo album, Good Fight of Faith. Good Fight of Faith is a ten track testimonial of how there will always be fights, some you will overcome and some may overcome you, but you will always come out victorious if you let go and let God lead you. “This whole album is just based around life in general”, explains Fred. “In the process of doing this album, I dedicated my time and my life to just getting before Him, talking to the Lord, and praying. “ The result was my testament about being a Christian, a young Christian, a family man, a husband, a son, a friend, and trying to be true to God.”
INTERVIEW WITH FRED REED
Greetings Fred, thanks for allowing me (Sherrell Valdezloqui) to interview you during your busy schedule!
Sherrell: Tell us a little about yourself?
Fred:I was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware and I am the youngest of thirteen children. I am a husband, father, singer, song writer, producer, business owner and most importantly a man of God. Music has always been my passion since I was young and it has provided me the opportunity to fulfill my goal in providing a better life for my family.
Sherrell: What is the name of your recently released cd?
Fred :Good Fight of Faith.
Sherrell: What is the purpose of releasing that Cd/what do you want the listeners to get from it?
Fred:I released this CD to let people know that it is not about where you are from, but where you can go if you allow God to lead. Sometimes we allow our environment and up bringing to limit us from what God has for us. This CD is a prime example of how God can take you out of the valley and into the land flowing with milk and honey only if we trust him. I would hope that this project would encourage non-believers to get in and believers to stay in the race (the Good Fight of Faith).
Sherrell: Were there any obstacles in the process of making your Cd?
Fred: Yes, I have always sung in a group so the adjustment to go solo was a challenge for me. I purposed myself to dedicate my time and life to getting before God, conversing with him and praying. There were computer crashes, software malfunctions and very long studio hours, but I did not allow it to distract my focus.
Sherrell: Out of all of the songs on your Cd which one is most personal to you?
Fred:The title track, Good Fight of Faith. I felt that nothing was ever given to me without a fight, but through faith and perseverance I came to understand that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. It is as if we are boxers, he is not counting us out until he gives a ten count. In life sometimes you are knocked down, but you can get back up and become victorious if you believe.
Sherrell: How important is it for an artist/you to have a strong support system?
Fred:It is vital to have a strong support system especially after encouraging so many people day in and day out you need that support to be able to encourage and pour back into you. Long hours on the road, in the studio and live performances can be very taxing on the body so the support system of family and friends is need to ensure you are doing the proper things to take care of your temple (body).
Sherrell: In the Gospel Industry is it always an easy journey?
Fred:It is never really an easy journey. When we desire to do good evil is always present, but knowing that all things work together for the good and knowing your purpose makes the journey worth it all.
Sherrell: How do you balance your music ministry and family life?
Fred:I have the pleasure of co-owning a business with my wife, who is very supportive of my ministry. My time is freed up more to spend with her, my children and music.
Sherrell: What would you say to someone that wants to pursue being a gospel artist?
Fred:I would say seek the Lord through praying and fasting. Ask him for guidance in your decision making. Without putting him first you are just setting yourself up for failure. I believe it is a great move especially if you enjoy being a servant, encouraging and giving hope to people.
Sherrell: What would you say your purpose on earth is?
Fred:My purpose is to be a leader and an example of what God can do if he leads and we trust him.
Sherrell: How do you give back to the community?
Fred:My wife and I are the owners of two childcare facilities located in the urban areas of Delaware serving over 300 children. We are currently in the process of developing the Reed’s Refuge Center, which will provide various classes (GED, Parenting, Nutrition, Health & Exercise, etc.) and housing to single mothers and their children.
Sherrell: Where can your Cd be purchased and how can you be contacted for booking/events and etc.?
Fred:You can visit www.fredreedmusic.com for purchasing, booking, upcoming events, etc.
Sherrell: Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with us?
Fred:I am currently in the process of putting together the Good Fight of Faith tour and hosting open mic nights in various cities. Also, I am scouting young new gospel artists to produce.
Sherrell: Is there anything else you would like for our readers to know about you?
Fred:I just want them to know that I am a positive man who is down to earth and willing to do whatever it takes to get the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ out to the masses.
Thank you so much Fred for allowing me (Sherrell Valdezloqui) to interview you during your busy schedule.

Sherrell Valdezloqui: You are currently promoting your book entitled Lessons on Church Folk Volume 1. How did the title did came about and give us a brief synopsis?
Antoinette: I came up with the title when I wrote my first quote for the book. I thought about all of the issues that occur in the church and I had to come up with a title that would be received by people in the church. I came up with two titles: The Church Folk Manual and Lessons on Church Folk. After that, I asked people in my family which title sounded better. They all agreed that Lessons on Church Folk Volume 1 was the best title for the book.
Synopsis:
Overall, this book was written so that people are able to see that every church has issues. Even when you switch churches, you will see some of the same issues that you saw at your previous church. In any event, the church is a hospital where people come to get help for their issues. Only God can free us from the things that constantly stress us out. Life will be stressful but giving your stress over to God will allow you to be free to experience the love and happiness that he desires for all of his children.
This book will discuss issues such as:
• Love
• Hate
• Gossip
• Death
• Cheating
• Marriage problems
• Dating
• Parenting
• Abuse
• Friendships
• Hurt
• Pain
• Divorce
• Drama
• And much more!
Sherrell Valdezloqui: You hit on several deep topics in your book such as Love, Hate, Hurt, Dating, Marriage problems and more. Are these things something you dealt with personally or you’ve had others that crossed your path with these sort of issues?
Antoinette: I have dealt with some of these issues in my life. I have experienced hurt in dating relationships and various other issues. In any event, many people have crossed my path with these same issues and I have observed them and how they deal with their issues.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: How do you connect your belief with some of the issues that others see to be just physical situations in your book?
Anotinette: I connect my beliefs with these issues because my religion is a strong part of my life. However, I cannot look over the situations that are happening in the church just because I am a religious person. Physical situations occur in a lot of relationships but it is how you deal with them that matters. However, the situations are not new; they have been happening for many years within the church.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: Do you have a good support system as an Inspirational Author?
Antoinette: Yes, I have a great support system as an Inspirational Author. My family has been my greatest support system throughout the writing and publishing process. I am so glad that I have them to help me. They assist me with selling the books at Book Signings and at public events in the community. Also, I have connected with other Inspirational Authors on FaceBook and Twitter and they have given me lots of advice on how to market my book to a broader audience. They have encouraged me to continue to have Book Signings, Radio Interviews, and Magazine Articles so that I can give the book more exposure.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: What do you want the readers to get out of your book?
Antoinette: This book will help readers to know and realize the fact that church people have issues. But these issues are what brings us to church. We come to church so that we can pray and find effective ways to solve our problems. In buying this book, the readers will be able to see that no matter what they are going through, God can bring them through any and every situation that they will encounter.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: Are there any upcoming books/projects you are currently working on?
Antoinette: Yes. Lessons on Church Folk Volume 2 is available for purchase online (BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com). Right now, I am working on Lessons on Church Folk Volume 3 and Lessons on Church Folk Volume 4. I am currently in the writing stage for both books and they are set to be released in the Fall of 2012.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: Where can your books be purchased? And how can you be contacted for events?
Antoinette: My books can be purchased at the following outlets: BarnesandNoble.com, Amazon.com, booksamillion.com, www.lessonsonchurchfolkvol1.com, www.lessonsonchurchfolkvol2.com
Kindle and Nook versions of the book are available as well.
I can be contacted by email and telephone: woodsdavis1_yahoo.com (269) 519-4837
Sherrell Valdezloqui: Would you like to share anything else with our audience?
Antoinette: Yes. I hope that the readers enjoy the books as they were written with church members in mind. Also, these books will make you more aware of your surroundings as you attend church. But I hope that the readers are able to look at the stories and know that these stories can occur in any church. Overall, church folks have issues but when they bring their issues to God, he is able to bear their burdens so that they can live a more abundant life.
Sherrell Valdezloqui: Thank you for allowing me to interview you. I pray much success in your writing.
